About Me
Hello! I'm Jacqueline. I was born in Pasadena, CA and lived in the San Gabriel Valley up until 7th grade. I am now a high school senior in Northern California. My hobbies include volunteering at Oakland Zoo, playing the violin, traveling, and performing with my school's marching band and color guard. I am also a Girl Scout Ambassador, in Troop #5481. Since I was young, I've always loved animals.
High-School CoursesHere are some of my most memorable classes that I have taken or are currently enrolled in:
Medical Occupations
Being in the Tri-Valley Regional Occupational Program, gives me the opportunity to have a hands-on learning experience through clinical internships at local medical facilities. When I turn 18, I will be eligible to take the California certification exam for Medical Assistants and become a California Certified Medical Assistant-Administrative (CCMA-A). More Anatomy and Physiology for Health Care Professionals
This class is a college prep course, in which I use my knowledge of biology and chemistry to explore the organization and function of the human body systems. I am able to examine a variety of careers in the health and medical fields, explore educational opportunities, learn skills for college and career readiness, and create a plan to achieve my goals. AP Biology, Chemistry, AP Psychology, PLTW Principles of Biomedical Sciences, Zoology, AP Chinese, Spanish I & II, Symphony Orchestra
These are some other classes that I have enjoyed taking. |
VolunteeringAs a Teen Wild Guide (TWG) at Oakland Zoo, I teach visitors about the animals and promote conservation. I volunteer mostly in the Children's Zoo, so I have a lot of experience teaching children. The teens in the program use props, toys, and signs to help people visualize the information we are telling them. This program promotes conservation leadership and action among young people.
More Ecology Project International
Ecology Project International (EPI) is a program that inspires and empowers the young students through immersive experiences with nature and science. I was delighted to be one of the teen volunteers to travel to Costa Rica. During this 9 day trip, I learned so much about Costa Rica's felines and primates and the impacts of climate change. Specifically conducting research on leatherback turtles, monkeys, and jaguars, I explored Pacuare Reserve's rainforest and costal ecosystems. This experience allowed me to discover a different lifestyle; for example, the volunteers and I learned what it's like to live with no electricity, hot water, or a smartphone. We also only carried one giant travel backpack which held all of our clothes and necessities.
More I loved visiting Pacuare Reserve; the people there were so welcoming towards the volunteers, and they cooked us many healthy & delicious meals, using ingredients that they grow right outside their homes! More about the reserve: https://www.pacuarereserve.org/ |
